The Politicization of Business
A cross-institutional research project on how — and why — companies are increasingly drawn into political conflict, and what to do about its most pernicious forms.
Mission
About the project
The Assessing and Addressing the Politicization of Business project studies how and why companies are increasingly drawn into political conflict — from debanking and deplatforming to refusals to serve customers, contested ESG mandates, activist pressure campaigns, employee and investor pressure, and government attempts to influence private enterprise.
Drawing on strategy, ethics, law, economics, and political theory, the project develops scholarly, pedagogical, and policy resources to understand these dynamics and to address their most pernicious forms.
It is a cross-institutional collaboration led by the Georgetown Institute for the Study of Markets and Ethics (GISME) at Georgetown's McDonough School of Business, with partners at the Madden Center for Value Creation at Florida Atlantic University and at EM Normandie.
